YORK TAKES SERIES FINALE

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 3, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 13-1 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

POSTGAME VIDEO: Eric Niesen and Shawn Williams talk about the tough loss and preview the upcoming series vs. Bridgeport

Scott Grimes put York on top in the first with a RBI double to right-center field off Ducks starter Eric Niesen. Five more runs in the third, highlighted by a pair of two-run doubles from Ramon Castro and Chris Nowak stretched the lead to five.

Castro’s solo homer in the fifth, four runs in the sixth and single runs in the eighth and ninth accounted for the rest of York’s scoring. Shawn Williams had a RBI single in the ninth off Revs starter Corey Thurman, but it wasn’t enough.

Thurman (4-1) got the win, as he threw a complete game, allowing just one run on eight hits while striking out three. Niesen (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding six runs on seven hits in two and one-third innings.

Williams led the Ducks with three hits on the afternoon.

Following a day off Monday, the Ferry Cup Series returns to Bethpage Ballpark on Tuesday night, as the Ducks open a three-game set against the cross-sound rival Bridgeport Bluefish. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the ballpark gates opening at 5:35. Come celebrate former WWF champion Mick Foley’s birthday at the Duck Pond, as “Mankind” will throw out a first pitch and stand on top of the dugout as the crowd sings “Happy Birthday” to him. It will also be an “Unused Ticket Day” at the ballpark.

Fans that did not make it out to a ballgame during the 2012 season and are still in possession of their unused tickets may exchange them for tickets of equal or lesser value at the Bethpage Ballpark Box Office, subject to availability. Southpaw Gustavo Chacin gets the start for Long Island against Bridgeport lefty Paul Oseguera.

Tickets for the game and all Ducks home games are available by visiting the Bethpage Ballpark box office, calling 631-940-TIXX or visiting www.liducks.com. Fans unable to make the game can follow all the action live online at www.liducks.com by clicking the Watch Live icon on the homepage. Duck Tales: With two hits, Ray Navarrete has now reached base safely in his last 22 games, the longest on-base streak by a Duck this season and second-longest active streak in the Atlantic League. The seven-year Duck has also picked up hits in 11 consecutive games and 20 of his last 22. In that span, he has raised his batting average 100 points from .236 to .336 and his on-base percentage from .288 to .395…With a pair of doubles in the game, Shawn Williams now has six doubles and nine extra-base hits this season. Navarrete leads the team and the Atlantic League with 17 two-baggers and ranks second in the league with 22 extra-base hits. The three hits for Williams gave him his second three-hit game this season…Despite the loss, the Ducks are still 10 game over .500 at home with a 15-5 record and have a 15-8 mark against the Freedom Division. Bridgeport is the only team with a winning record against Long Island this year at 5-2.
