UNDEFEATED HOMESTAND CAPPED WITH TWINBILL SWEEP

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 10, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks swept a doubleheader from the York Revolution on Thursday night at Bethpage Ballpark, winning by scores of 4-2 and 16-9.

GAME VIDEO: Ryan Garko, Lew Ford and Brandon Sing all hit homers

POSTGAME VIDEO: Kevin Baez, Ford and Sing talk about the 6-0 homestand and the upcoming trip to Sugar Land, Texas

Ryan Garko got the Ducks started with a two-run homer to right in the first off York starter Chris Cody. Dan Lyons added a RBI single to left in the second to score Reid Gorecki and increase the lead to three.

Both teams traded runs in the fourth, as Chris Nowak hit a sac fly to center off Bob Zimmermann and Lew Ford scurried home on a passed ball. A RBI single by Andres Perez in the sixth cut the deficit back to two, but it that was all the Revs could muster.

Zimmermann (2-0) earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with five strikeouts. Cody (0-3) took the loss, yielding four runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks.

Garko got the offense rolling again in game two with a RBI single to left in the first off Revs’ starter Omar Javier. Ford added a RBI fielder’s choice in the opening frame. Three more runs came across in the second, with two scoring on an error and another on Brandon Sing’s sac fly to center to increase the lead to 5-0.

York got three runs back in the third when Michael Hernandez hit a three-run homer to center. However, Long Island answered with four runs in their half of the inning and added seven in the fifth to put the game out of reach. The Ducks batted around in both innings, sending nine men to the plate in the third and 12 in the fifth.

Wynn Pelzer (1-0) got the win in relief with a scoreless inning of work. Javier (0-2) suffered the loss, surrendering eight runs (seven earned) in two innings of work.

Long Island hits the road their first ever matchup against the Sugar Land Skeeters on Friday night in the opener of a six-game series in Texas. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. CST at Constellation Field. Fans can follow all the action live on the radio at MyCountry 96.1 FM, with Michael Polak calling the play-by-play. He is now 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA and 16 strikeouts this season…The 16 runs scored by the Ducks in game two set a new season-high for Long Island. The previous mark was 13, done in the first two games of the homestand against Camden…Ford’s homer in game two was his fourth homer of the season. It was also the third-year Duck’s third home run in five games…Sing’s two-run blast in game two was fifth of the season, which leads the Atlantic League. The infielder clubbed two homers in the series and three during the homestand…With the wins, the Ducks are now 6-0 at Bethpage Ballpark this season, which breaks the franchise record for most consecutive wins at home to begin a season.
