Long Island drops first-ever matchup against High Point
(High Point, N.C., May 21, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the High Point Rockers 11-0 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at BB&T Point.
The Rockers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a leadoff solo home run to left-center field by Stephen Cardullo off Ducks starter Jake Fisher. Quincy Latimore doubled the lead with an RBI single to left in the fourth.
A three-run sixth inning by High Point extended their lead to 5-0, with Myles Schroder’s two-run single to center highlighting the frame. The Rockers rounded out the scoring with a six-run eighth.
Rockers starter Seth Simmons (3-1) earned the win, tossing six scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out five. Fisher (2-2) took the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits and two walks over five and two-thirds innings with five strikeouts.
The Ducks and Rockers continue their three-game set on Wednesday morning. First pitch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. from BB&T Point. Long Island returns home on Friday, May 24, to open a three-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
