Ducks draft rights to Sachem North High School alum Anthony Palermo

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 31, 2020) – The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, in conjunction with Prospect Dugout, hosted a mini-camp tryout last week at the USSSA Space Coast Complex in Melbourne, Fla.

Over 70 players took the field in front of several coaches and Atlantic League personnel in attendance. Following the on-field tryout, a draft was held for league clubs to select the rights of players who participated. The draft was held in order of each team’s final overall record during the 2019 regular season.

The Atlantic League champion Long Island Ducks, who ended the season with a league-best 86-54 record, selected last and drafted local infielder Anthony Palermo. He will be extended an invitation to Ducks spring training in 2021 and offered a chance to make the team’s Opening Day roster.

“Anthony is a local, versatile infielder,” said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “We are excited to give him a look during spring training and see how he can help our ballclub.”

Palermo most recently attended St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn. He was named to the Skyline All-Conference First Team as a third baseman in his senior season after starting all 37 games for the Bears. The righty hitter and thrower led the team in at-bats (127), hits (43), doubles (13), RBI (33), on-base percentage (.427) and slugging percentage (.559), with his doubles and RBI totals good for third in the conference. He previously spent time at Suffolk County Community College, hitting .339 with 31 RBIs and 20 runs as a sophomore. Palermo is a native of Patchogue, N.Y. and attended Sachem North High School in Lake Ronkonkoma.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and have welcomed over 8 million fans during their 20 seasons of play. For further information, visit LIDucks.com.
