Ducks recognized by Suffolk County Legislature

(Central Islip, N.Y., Nov. 19, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks today were presented with a proclamation from the Suffolk County Legislature, including Suffolk County Legislator Rick Montano, in recognition of winning the 2013 Atlantic League championship, their second consecutive title. The proclamation was presented to Ducks founder/CEO Frank Boulton, co-owner/bench coach Bud Harrelson and president/general manager Michael Pfaff.

“It is my pleasure once again to recognize the 2013 Atlantic League champions: the Long Island Ducks,” said Legislator Montano. “We’re looking forward to the team becoming the first in League history to ‘three-peat’ along with celebrating their 15th anniversary season in 2014.”

The Ducks were recognized after winning the third title franchise history when they defeated the Somerset Patriots three games to two in the 2013 Atlantic League Championship Series. The series was won on Sunday, September 29 at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey when the Ducks defeated the Patriots in the decisive Game Five. John Brownell pitched eight strong innings to earn his second win of the series and was named Championship Series Most Valuable Player.

Long Island previously won Atlantic League titles in 2004 and 2012 and received proclamations from the Suffolk County Legislature following both championships as well. Among others recognized on Tuesday was New York Jets legend Marty Lyons for his work with the March of Dimes, who teamed up with the Ducks during their 2013 championship run.
