Ducks re-sign pair from 2013 championship team

(Central Islip, N.Y., Feb. 12, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks today announced that they have signed outfielder Adam Bailey and infielder Ryan Strieby. Both players return for their second season with the Ducks after helping lead Long Island to the 2013 Atlantic League championship.

“We are excited to welcome Adam and Ryan back to the team for 2014,” says Ducks president and general manager Michael Pfaff. “Both players were instrumental in allowing us achieve our goal of a championship last season.”

Bailey led the Ducks in games played during the 2013 campaign with 113 and was second on the team in hits with 130, trailing only Bryant Nelson (144). The right fielder batted .254 with 15 home runs, 57 RBI, 24 doubles and five triples. He also posted the team’s longest hitting streak at 16 games (May 19-June 5) and longest on-base streak at 23 games (May 9-June 5).

In the playoffs, the Nebraska native added a home run, four RBI, two runs and two doubles. Prior to joining the Ducks, he spent three seasons in the Houston Astros organization, reaching as high as Triple-A in 2012. The 25-year-old has a .266 career batting average with 53 homers, 230 RBI, 89 doubles and 8 triples in 429 games. A University of Nebraska alum, Bailey was originally drafted by the Astros in the 23rd round of the 2010 amateur draft.

Strieby joined the Flock early in the 2013 season and was outstanding during Long Island’s playoff run. In eight games, he batted .357 (12-for-31) with four RBI, three runs, two doubles and three walks. During the regular season, he was limited to 53 games due to injury but compiled a .251 batting average, four home runs, 26 RBI and 11 doubles.

The 28-year-old spent seven seasons in affiliated baseball with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Detroit Tigers organizations, reaching the Triple-A level in 2011 and 2012. He was named an All-Star in three consecutive seasons (2007-2009) and was the Tigers Minor League Player of the Year in 2008. That same year, he set a franchise record with 29 home runs and added 94 RBI in 112 games with Single-A Lakeland. Strieby was selected by the Tigers in the fourth round of the 2006 amateur draft after being named SEC Player of the Year and a First-Team All American at the University of Kentucky.
