Ducks earn sixth shutout win of season behind righty’s six scoreless innings
 

(Bridgewater, N.J., June 20, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks shut out the Somerset Patriots 6-0 on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

The Ducks broke a scoreless a deadlock in the top of the fourth inning with three runs off Patriots starter David Holmberg. An RBI double down the left field line by Hector Sanchez and a two-out, two-run double to left-center by Steve Lombardozzi did the damage.

Back-to-back home runs runs in the fifth extended the lead to 6-0. Lew Ford clubbed a two-run homer over the left field fence with one out, and Rey Fuentes followed on the next pitch with solo blast to right-center.

Ducks starter Travis Banwart (2-0) was brilliant to earn the win, tossing six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out six. Holmberg (0-2) took the loss, yielding six runs (five earned) on eight hits and three walks over five innings with three strikeouts. Vin Mazzaro, Enrique Burgos and Josh Lueke each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Flock.

Sanchez and newcomer D’Arby Myers each had two hits to lead the Flock offensively. Lombardozzi and Ford each drove in a pair of runs.

The Ducks return home on Friday to play a single admission doubleheader against the Lancaster Barnstormers. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 for all fans. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive 20th Anniversary Season T-Shirts, courtesy of Petro Home Services. Game two will begin approximately 20-25 minutes after the completion of game one, and both games are slated for seven innings.
