Lancaster strikes early to claim series finale
(Lancaster, Penn., May 11, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 8-1 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Barnstormers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Ducks starter Matt Way. A RBI single by Blake Gailen and a two-run home run by Cole Garner did the damage. Four more runs in the second on Yusuke Kajimoto’s RBI single and Gailen’s three-run homer increased the lead to seven.
The Ducks grabbed a run in the fourth on a RBI single by Jon Myers off Lancaster starter Chris Schwinden. However, a sac fly to left by Kajimoto in the sixth rounded out the scoring.
Schwinden (3-0) picked up the win, tossing seven innings, allowing one run on five hits and one walk. Way (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering seven runs on nine hits in five innings while striking out four.
Joash Brodin led the Flock with two hits and a run scored.
The Ducks will continue their road trip on Tuesday night when they open a three-game series against the cross-sound rival Bridgeport Bluefish. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Right-hander John Brownell takes the mound for the Ducks against Bluefish righty Tomo Ohka. Long Island will return home on Friday, May 16 to open a three-game series with the Camden Riversharks. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
