Seven-run fifth sinks Ducks
(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 12, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 9-1 in a rain-shortened game on Thursday night in the final game of a three-game series and final regular season home game at Bethpage Ballpark.

Lancaster took a 2-0 lead in the second on RBI singles by Dayton Buller and Kyle Haines off Ducks starter Derek Blacksher. Ralph Henriquez cut the deficit in half for Long Island in the bottom of the frame with a solo homer to right off Barnstormers starter Jeff Bennett.
It stayed that way until the fifth when the ‘Stormers put up a seven-spot. A pair of RBI singles by Joe Thurston, Travis Denker’s three-run double, Dayton Buller’s run-scoring single and Jerry Owens’ RBI double did the damage before the rain began to fall.
Bennett (1-1) collected the win, tossing five innings, allowing just one run on two hits with three strikeouts. Blacksher (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding seven runs on 10 hits in four innings of work.
The Ducks hit the road for their final series of the regular season as they take on the Somerset Patriots. Duck Tales: Ralph Henriquez’s solo homer in the second inning was his seventh of the season. Four of his seven longballs have been hit at Bethpage Ballpark and six of the seven have come batting left-handed. The Ducks have now launched 114 home runs as a team this season…The Ducks finish their home schedule in 2013 with a winning record of 36-35. Long Island has now had a winning record at home in 13 of their 14 seasons.
