Cabrera and Valdespin each pick up three hits for Long Island

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 5, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-3 in 10 innings on Tuesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Blake Gailen gave the Barnstormers a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a two-out solo home run to right field in the first inning off Ducks starter Bennett Parry. The Ducks rallied back with two runs in the third inning off Lancaster starter Tommy Shirley. Emilio Bonifacio’s RBI double and Lew Ford’s RBI single highlighted the inning.

A sacrifice fly to right by Dan Lyons in the sixth extended the lead to 3-1. However, a two-run sac fly off the bat of Ryan Casteel in the eighth inning tied up the ballgame at three. It stayed that way until the 10th inning when Trayvon Robinson gave Lancaster the lead for good with a two-out RBI single to right.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Parry pitched six innings of one-run ball, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out five. Shirley lasted six innings as well, yielding three runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Stephen Johnson (1-0) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning, and Matt Marsh (0-1) suffered the loss, conceding a run on three hits while striking out three in the 10th inning. Matt Reynolds recorded his ninth save with a scoreless bottom of the 10th.

Ramon Cabrera and Jordany Valdespin each had three hits to lead the Flock.
