T.J. Rivera’s first homer as a Duck not enough to complete sweep for Long Island

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 21, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 8-4 on Sunday evening in the finale of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Long Island opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double to left field by D’Arby Myers and an RBI single to left by T.J. Rivera. Lancaster tied the game at two in the third on Joe Terdoslavich’s two-out, two-run double to center.

The Barnstormers went in front 4-2 in the fourth on Destin Hood’s solo homer to center and Greg Golson’s two-out RBI single to right. Three more runs came home in the fifth on an RBI single by Andrew Aplin and a two-run single from Hood, increasing the advantage to five.

Rivera brought the Flock back within three at 7-4 in the bottom of the fifth, launching a two-out, two-run homer to left. However, the Ducks were unable to get closer, and Josh Bell’s sac fly in the seventh rounded out the scoring.

Barnstormers starter John Anderson did not factor into the decision, pitching four innings of two-run ball, allowing two hits and two walks with one strikeout. Scott Shuman (1-1) picked up the win with a 1-2-3 inning in the sixth. Ducks starter Kevin McAvoy (0-3) took the loss, conceding seven runs on nine hits and two walks over four innings with six strikeouts.

Myers and Rivera led the Flock offensively with two hits apiece. Rivera drove in three runs, while Myers added an RBI and two runs.
