(Staten Island, N.Y., May 9, 2024) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Staten Island FerryHawks 7-2 on Wednesday evening in the final game of a three-game series at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park.

The Ducks plated three runs in the opening inning against FerryHawks starter Mike Shawaryn on Tyler Dearden’s two-run double and an error that scored Dearden from second. Staten Island closed to within 3-2 in the fourth on Taylor Motter’s two-run homer to center field off Ducks starter Wei-Yin Chen.

Long Island responded with a four-run fifth inning to open up a five-run advantage. Frank Schwindel’s RBI single and Ryan McBroom’s three-run home run did the damage.

Chen (1-1) earned the win, tossing six innings of two-run ball, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out two. Shawaryn (1-1) took the loss, yielding seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits in five innings with two strikeouts. John LaRossa and Justin Alintoff combined for three scoreless innings of relief to preserve the win.

Schwindel and Dearden led the Ducks offense with three hits apiece, combining to drive in three runs and score three. Jackie Bradley Jr. added two hits and two runs.
