Long Island racks up 13 hits to earn series split

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 23, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 5-2 on Thursday night in the finale of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Both teams traded zeroes until the bottom of the third inning. Jon Griffin’s two-run home run to center field off of Revolution starter Logan Williamson put the Ducks on top. Long Island extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth on a two-run single to center by Delta Cleary, Jr.

York cut the deficit in half in the fifth on Brandon Boggs’ two-run homer to right-center off of Ducks starter Ian Marshall. However, a RBI double to right by Randy Ruiz in the bottom of the eighth put the game out of reach.

Marshall (4-5) earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five. Williamson (4-7) took the loss, surrendering four runs on 11 hits and four walks with one strikeout in five innings. Ryan Kussmaul earned his 24th save with a scoreless ninth, striking out three batters.

Cleary, Jr. led the Flock with three hits, while Griffin, Ruiz and Cody Puckett each added two.

Long Island hits the road on Friday to begin a three-game weekend series against the cross-sound rival Bridgeport Bluefish. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Ducks return home on Tuesday, July 28 to open up a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots. Duck Tales: Jon Griffin’s two-run home run in the third inning was his team-leading 12th of the season. In addition, it tied him with Sugar Land’s Chris Wallace and Lancaster’s Kevin Rivers for the most in the Atlantic League this year. Three of his 12 longballs have come against the York Revolution, and he has gone deep three times in the last nine games…With three hits in the game, Delta Cleary, Jr. earned his seventh three-hit game of 2015. That ties him with Reegie Corona for the most on the Flock this season. The outfielder has now amassed 16 multi-hit games overall. His stolen base of second in the third inning was his 18th of the season in 21 attempts. He ranks third in the Atlantic League in steals and has an .857 stolen base percentage…Ian Marshall has now tossed back-to-back quality starts. In the two starts, he has allowed five earned run in 12 innings (3.75 ERA) on 13 hits and six walks while striking out eight…J.C. Romero tossed a scoreless inning in the seventh. The former big leaguer has now made five straight scoreless appearances out of the bullpen. In that span, he has yielded just two hits and four walks in four and two-thirds innings while striking out two…Amalio Diaz worked another scoreless eighth inning on Thursday. The right-hander has now allowed just two runs over his last 21 appearances, posting a 0.79 ERA in that span. He has given up just 12 hits and one walk over 23 innings in those games while striking out 28 batters.
