(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 1, 2026) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Staten Island FerryHawks 20-6 on Saturday night in the fifth game of a six-game series before a past-capacity crowd of 6,213 at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
The Ducks erupted for five runs in the opening inning when Marcus Chiu was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Wilmer Difo scored on a passed ball and Jorge Bonifacio launched 432-foot three-run home run to left-center field off FerryHawks starter Christian Allegretti. Five more runs came home for the Flock in the fourth on René Pinto’s solo homer to left, a sac fly to center by Bonifacio, a passed ball that scored Chiu and RBI singles to center by Alsander Womack and Austin Dennis, pushing the advantage to 10-0.
Long Island continued to pour it on with a six-run fifth inning, highlighted by Chiu’s bases loaded walk, RBI singles by Bonifacio and Womack and a sac fly to center by Pinto. Staten Island got on the scoreboard in the sixth via an RBI single to right by Gary Mattis, but the Ducks got the run back in the bottom of the inning on Womack’s RBI groundout to short.
Isaiah Mirabal picked up a pinch hit RBI single in the eighth for the FerryHawks, but Womack countered in the bottom of the frame for the Ducks with a 386-foot three-run homer to left to make it a 20-2 ballgame. Staten Island plated four runs in the ninth but would get no closer.
Ducks starter Rio Gomez (1-0) earned the win, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one hit batter while striking out seven. Allegretti (1-2) suffered the loss, surrendering eight runs on five his and four walks in three and one-third innings with two strikeouts.
Womack led the Ducks offense with four hits, six RBIs and three runs. Bonifacio added three hits, five RBIs and two runs.
The Ducks and FerryHawks wrap up their six-game set on Sunday evening. Game time is slated for 5:05 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 4:05 (3:50 for full season ticket holders). All fans in attendance will receive Ducks Stadium Cups, courtesy of Liberty Coca-Cola. It’s also a FourLeaf Family Funday Sunday, featuring a pregame Catch on the Field and postgame Kids Run the Bases. Left-hander Nick Margevicius (1-0, 7.50) gets the start for the Ducks against FerryHawks righty Charlie Adamson (1-5, 7.57).
