The Ducks struck first with two runs in the first inning against Blue Crabs starter Scott Snodgress. An RBI triple by Dan Lyons and a sacrifice by Lew Ford put the Ducks on top. Three more runs came across in the second, as Fehlandt Lentini singled to score Anthony Vega and two more runs were plated by Lyons on a deep fly ball to left that was dropped by Fred Lewis.

The Ducks were not done scoring yet, as Cody Puckett launched a two-run home run on the first pitch of his at-bat in the fifth. The blast pushed the lead to 7-0.

Ducks starter John Brownell had a no-hitter going until the top of the sixth when Gary Brown hit a one-out RBI double. The Blue Crabs tried to come back, scoring four runs in the seventh inning. An RBI double from Gustavo Molina and a two-run triple by Brown highlighted the inning. Molina’s run-scoring groundout in the sixth trimmed Long Island’s lead to 7-5, but Southern Maryland would get no closer.

Brownell (1-0) earned the win, finishing the night with six innings pitched and giving up three hits, three runs (two earned), and one walk with five strikeouts. Snodgress (0-2) took the loss, giving up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and a walk over five innings. Todd Coffey collected his fourth save with a perfect ninth inning.

Ford, Puckett, Vega, and Mike Dowd each had two hits to lead the Flock.
