Ducks rack up 11 runs, 13 hits to earn split of four-game set

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 12, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 11-2 on Wednesday night in the finale of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Ducks struck first in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly to left field by Dan Lyons off of Riversharks starter Sean Gleason. Three more runs in the third on Lyons’ two-run single to center and a bases loaded walk to Anthony Vega increased the lead to four.

Camden got on the scoreboard in the fourth on a two-out RBI single to center by Jose Gil off of Ducks starter Darin Downs. However, the Ducks answered back with six more runs in the fourth to balloon their advantage to 10-1. RBI singles from Delta Cleary, Jr., Sean Burroughs and Carlos Hughes, as well as a two-run single by Steve McQuail, highlighted the frame.

The Riversharks added a run in the eighth on a RBI single to left by Joel Guzman. The Ducks responded though in the bottom of the frame on a RBI single to left by Mike Blanke to round out the scoring.

Downs (2-3) earned the victory, tossing six innings, allowing just one run on four hits and five walks while striking out six. Gleason (5-11) suffered the loss, surrendering eight runs on nine hits and two walks with two strikeouts in three and one-third innings.

Hughes and Fehlandt Lentini led the Flock with three hits apiece, while Burroughs added two.. Hughes drove in a run and scored twice, while Lentini scored three times.

The Ducks continue their homestand on Thursday night when they open a four-game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Dr. QuackerJack T-Shirts, courtesy of Peconic Bay Medical Center. It’s a Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark! The Duck Club Restaurant/Bar, normally reserved for VIP/Season Ticket Holders only, will be open to all fans during the game. The bar will feature drink specials, including half price domestics, while the restaurant will include special menu selections. Right-hander John Brownell gets the start for the Ducks against Blue Crabs righty Brian Baker.

Duck Tales: Darin Downs tossed his second consecutive quality start with six innings of one-run ball. In his last two starts, the former big leaguer has allowed just three runs in 12 innings (2.25 ERA) on eight hits and seven walks while striking out 10 batters. Downs has allowed two runs or less in four of his six starts with the Flock…Dan Lyons reached base three times in the game. He has now reached base safely in 18 of his last 19 games dating back to July 23 and is batting .353 (24-for-68) in that span. He also drove in three runs for the seventh time this year, the most among any Ducks player in 2015. In addition, Lyons scored three runs for the first time this season…Fehlandt Lentini earned his third three-hit game of the season and second of the homestand. He also collected three hits on Monday night. The outfielder now has six multi-hit contests in 15 games since joining the Flock this year. The second-year Duck also scored three runs for the fourth time in a Ducks uniform, three of which came in 2014…Carlos Hughes earned his second multi-hit game with the Ducks and first three-hit contest. His only other multi-hit game came on August 6 at Sugar Land when he collected two hits. The infielder collected his first RBI with Long Island as well on an infield single in the fourth inning…Frank DeJiulio, Jr. tossed a scoreless seventh inning for the Ducks. The right-hander has now made 13 consecutive appearances without allowing an earned run, dating back to June 10. In that span, he has given up just eight hits and two walks while striking out 14 batters…Billy Buckner threw a scoreless ninth inning and has now allowed just one run in three relief appearances since moving to the bullpen from the starting rotation. In those three outings, the right-hander has yielded just four hits and three walks while striking out 11 batters.
