The Ducks plated two runs in the opening inning when Fehlandt Lentini scored on a passed ball and Delta Cleary Jr. came home on a sacrifice fly by Cody Puckett. Four more runs came across in the third to extend the lead to 6-0. A throwing error by Patriots starter Bryce Morrow and a three-run homer to right by Puckett highlighted the inning.

Somerset closed to within four on a two-run home run to left-center by David Vidal in the fourth off Ducks starter Bruce Kern. The lead was trimmed to 6-4 in the eighth on a two-run homer to left by Eric Farris. However, a solo blast to left by Mark Minicozzi in the eighth pushed the advantage back to three.

An RBI single by Mycal Jones in the ninth closed the gap to 7-5, but Aharon Eggleston struck out looking with the tying runs on base to end the game.

Kern (4-1) collected the win, tossing five innings, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four. Morrow (2-2) took the loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) on six hits and a walk in two and two-thirds innings. Todd Coffey picked up his 15th save of the year, striking out the side in the ninth despite allowing one run and three hits.

Ruben Gotay led the Flock with two hits, while Puckett drove in four runs.
