Righty tosses five and two-thirds scoreless innings in home debut on mound
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 31, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks shut out the Somerset Patriots 3-0 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Ducks opened the scoring in third inning on an RBI single to right field by Vladimir Frias and a run-scoring double play ball off the bat of Hector Sanchez. It stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth when Frias tripled to left and scored on a two-out RBI single to left from Sanchez.
Brandon Beachy (4-0) earned the win, tossing five and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out five. Tyler Cloyd (0-2) took the loss, giving up two runs on six hits over six innings with two strikeouts. Pedro Beato collected his seventh save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out one.
Frias led the Flock offensively with three hits, an RBI and a run scored.
The Ducks and Patriots wrap up their three-game set on Sunday afternoon. Game time is slated for 1:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 12:35 (12:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive 20th Anniversary Drawstring Bags, courtesy of St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School. It’s also a Sunday Family Funday at the ballpark, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Ducks from 12:50 to 1:05 p.m. After the game, kids and kids at heart can take part in Kids Run the Bases. Left-hander Darin Downs (3-3, 2.71) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Patriots southpaw Rick Teasley (5-2, 3.75).
