Long Island shut out for first time this season

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 27, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the New Britain Bees 6-0 on Friday night in the opening game of a four-game set at Bethpage Ballpark.

New Britain’s Craig Maddox led off the second inning with a solo home run to center field to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, New Britain took a 2-0 lead on a solo homer by Jon Jones. The Bees then busted the game open in the seventh collecting four consecutive RBI singles from Brandon Chaves, Jovan Rosa, Maddox, and Jonathan Roof to take a 6-0 lead.

Bees starter Cole Johnson (3-3) earned the win, tossing seven scoreless innings of seven-hit ball while striking out three and walking none. Ducks starter Bobby Blevins (1-2) took the loss after surrendering three runs on seven hits over six and one-third innings with six strikeouts.

Lew Ford led the way for the Ducks with two hits to extend his hitting streak to nine consecutive games. Sean Burroughs added a hit and extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games. 

The Ducks and Bees continue their four-game set with a day-night doubleheader on Saturday. Game one is set for 1:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 12:05 (11:50 a.m. for full season ticket holders) and is slated for seven innings. Game two is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).

During game one, the Ducks will be running a Lucky Seat Giveaway. Every inning, one lucky seat will be selected throughout the ballpark. The fan holding a ticket for that seat will win an exclusive gift pack valued at over $85, courtesy of Not Your Father’s Root Beer and Small Town Brewery. Upon the completion of game two, all fans in attendance will enjoy a Grucci Fireworks Extravaganza. As fans exit the ballpark following both games, Ducks staff members will be handing out coupons for $10 off a purchase of $50 or more at Dick’s Sporting Goods. Left-hander Jack Snodgrass (3-3, 4.01) gets the start for the Ducks in the opener against Bees righty Josh Zeid (2-2, 4.26). The night game features Long Island righty Bruce Kern (0-0, 2.13) against New Britain left-hander Brandon Fry (0-0, 2.84).
