(Waldorf, Md., Aug. 14, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 6-3 on Tuesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Brandon Sing’s two-run home run

Long Island quickly got on the scoreboard thanks to Brandon Sing’s two-run home run in the first off Blue Crabs starter Matthew Vasquez. Ducks starter Eric Niesen kept the Blue Crabs off the scoreboard for the first three innings, but a two-run homer by Casey Benjamin in the fourth off Chris Flinn tied the game at two.

Southern Maryland took the lead for good in the fifth with four more runs. Two-run doubles by Brian Barton and Benjamin did the damage. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Sing in the eighth cut the deficit to three, but it wasn’t enough.

Vasquez (8-6) earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out six in eight innings. Flinn (0-3) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on five hits in two innings of relief. Niesen allowed just three hits in his three innings of work, collecting four strikeouts. Chris Mobley earned his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.
