Ezequiel Carrera records two hits in his Ducks debut
 

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 8, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the High Point Rockers 10-3 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Tyler Marincov hit a solo home run to center field off Ducks starter Alec Asher in the first inning to give the Rockers a 1-0 lead. Long Island responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning, as Ezequiel Carrera scored on a bunt single and error while Rey Fuentes came home on a wild pitch.

It stayed that way until the fourth when a two-run double to left-center by Kalian Sams put the High Point back in front 3-2. A seven-run seventh inning put the game out of reach. Stephen Cardullo’s two-run single, an RBI double by Hector Gomez and a three-run double by Brett Austin highlighted the inning. L.J. Mazzilli’s RBI single to center in the eighth rounded out the scoring.

Rockers starter Joe Van Meter (3-2) earned the win, pitching six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out seven. Asher (3-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on six hits and four walks over five innings with five strikeouts.

Carrera led the Flock with two hits and a run scored in his Ducks debut, while Steve Lombardozzi and Vladimir Frias added two hits apiece as well.

The Ducks and Rockers wrap up their three-game set on Sunday afternoon. Game time is slated for 1:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 12:35 (12:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive 20th Anniversary Season Ducks Gym Towels, courtesy of Fairfield Properties. It’s also a Sunday Family Funday at the ballpark, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Ducks from 12:50 to 1:05 p.m. After the game, kids and kids at heart can take part in Kids Run the Bases. Right-hander Travis Banwart (0-0, 0.00) makes his Ducks debut on the rubber against Rockers righty Tyler Herron (1-2, 5.06).
