Offense totals nine runs and 11 hits while southpaw turns in gem on mound

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 25, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the New Britain Bees 9-1 on Thursday night in the finale of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

New Britain opened the scoring in the second inning via an RBI groundout to second base from Rando Moreno off Ducks starter Darin Downs. Long Island responded in the bottom of the third with an RBI fielder’s choice from Ezequiel Carrera and an RBI single to left field by D’Arby Myers off Bees starter Jed Bradley to go in front 2-1.

The Ducks then erupted for a four-run fourth inning, extending their lead to 6-1. John Apostolo’s RBI single to center, a bases loaded walk to Carrera and a two-run single to right by Myers did the damage. T.J. Rivera launched a three-run home run to left in the sixth, ballooning the advantage to eight.

Downs (3-2) earned the win, tossing seven innings of one-run ball, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out nine batters. Bradley (3-6) suffered the loss, surrendering eight runs on nine hits and seven walks over five and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts. Mariel Checo and Clint Freeman each threw a scoreless inning of relief for the Ducks.

Apostolo led the Flock with three hits and a walk, driving in a run and scoring twice. Myers added two hits, three RBIs, a run and two walks.
