Blanke collects four hits, Brownell tosses complete game in defeat

(New Britain, Conn., Aug. 17, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the New Britain Bees 3-1 on Wednesday night in the third game of a four-game series at New Britain Stadium.

The Bees opened the scoring with a two-run single to left field by Craig Maddox in the first inning off Ducks starter John Brownell. Cole Garner’s two-out RBI single to left in the third extended the advantage to 3-0.

The Ducks plated a run in the eighth on Mike Blanke’s RBI double to left, which scored Mike Dowd. However, they would get no closer.

Anthony Marzi (4-1) earned the win with five and one-third scoreless innings, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out six. Brownell (8-5) suffered the hard-luck loss despite tossing all eight innings, yielding just three runs on 14 hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. He threw 136 pitches in the game, 92 of which were for strikes. Rob Bryson collected his first save of the year by retiring the final five batters, including four on strikeouts.

Blanke led the Flock with four hits on the night, while Delta Cleary Jr. chipped in with two.

The Ducks and Bees wrap up their four-game set on Thursday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m. at New Britain Stadium. Fans can follow all the action live on the Ducks’ official YouTube channel.
