Lombardozzi and Mazzilli each record three-hit nights for the Flock
 

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 13, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 13-3 on Friday night in the opening game of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

L.J. Mazzilli’s first inning RBI single to right field gave the Ducks an early 1-0 lead. However, the Barnstormers struck for 10 runs in the third inning to take a 10-1 lead. Caleb Gindl’s three-run home run to right, a two-run single by Kelly Dugan and a two-run double by Jake Hoover highlighted the frame.

Ty Kelly drove in his first run as a Duck with a sacrifice fly to left field in the sixth. Lancaster rounded out their scoring with a three-run ninth on two bases loaded walks and a wild pitch, and Hector Sanchez collected an RBI single in the bottom of the frame.

Barnstormers starter Nile Ball (2-2) earned the win, tossing seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on 12 hits and two walks with one strikeout. Ducks starter Vin Mazzaro (1-4) took the loss, conceding eight runs on six hits and three walks over two innings with two strikeouts. Clint Freeman threw five innings of two-run ball in relief for Long Island.

Mazzilli and Steve Lombardozzi each had three hits to lead the Flock offensively.

The Ducks and Barnstormers continue their three-game set on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Fireworks Spectacular, presented by PSEG Long Island. It’s also a Lucky Seat Saturday, presented by Long Island MacArthur Airport. During the game, the Ducks will be selecting a lucky fan in the ballpark, who will win a free trip from Islip to Nashville. Left-hander Darin Downs (1-3, 5.08) takes the mound for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Dominic DiSabatino (8-3, 7.34).
