Long Island evens series in dramatic affair

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 16, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks beat the York Revolution 5-4 in waddle-off fashion on Friday night in the second game of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

POSTGAME VIDEO: Kevin Baez, Ramon Castro and Kraig Binick talk about the win

Ramon Castro opened the scoring with a solo home run in the fourth inning off York starter Pedro Liriano. Kraig Binick added a RBI single later in the inning to stretch the lead to two. Long Island doubled their lead in the fifth on a pair of bases loaded walks by Revolution pitching.

The Revs tied the ballgame with a four-run eighth inning. Matt Spencer hit a two-run single, Ruddy Yan had a RBI fielder’s choice, and the tying run scored on a throwing error.

It stayed that way until the bottom of the 11th inning when P.J. Phillips singled, stole second base and came home to score on Binick’s walk-off single to left.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Ducks starter Matt Way left the game after throwing two shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. Liriano gave up four runs on eight hits in four innings pitched. Nick DeBarr (3-10) picked up the win, throwing a scoreless inning of relief, and Edward Paredes (1-2) took the loss, giving up a run on two hits in one-third of an inning.

Binick led the Ducks with three hits while Castro and Willis Otanez had two.
