(Central Islip, N.Y., July 2, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of outfielder Kraig Binick. The 28-year-old returns for his third season with the Ducks and seventh of professional baseball.

“Kraig had been a major contributor to our organization over the previous two seasons,” says Ducks president and general manager Michael Pfaff. “We are excited to welcome back the native Long Islander and hope for similar results from him this year.”

Binick rejoins the Ducks after helping Long Island to its second Atlantic League title in 2012. The center fielder batted .264 with three homers, 33 RBI, 60 runs, 17 doubles and a team-high 32 stolen bases during the regular season. In the playoffs, he compiled an impressive .405 batting average (15-for-37) with four RBI, five runs, three walks and two stolen bases. The speedster won the 2011 Atlantic League batting title with a .343 batting average and led the Atlantic League with 42 stolen bases and a .429 on-base percentage, helping the Ducks to the Liberty Division championship.

The Hicksville native began the season in the Mexican League, splitting time with Piratas de Campeche and Acereros de Monclova. In 64 combined games, he batted .259 with two homers, 21 RBI, 41 runs and 20 stolen bases. A graduate of Chaminade High School and NYIT, he has a .284 career batting average, a .369 on-base percentage, 378 runs and 184 stolen bases in 588 games. Binick was originally drafted by the Orioles in the 27th round of the 2007 amateur draft.

In additional roster moves, the Ducks have reinstated outfielder Ray Navarrete and pitcher T.J. Hose to the active list while placing pitchers Matt Way and Dontrelle Willis on the inactive list. Outfielder Rian Kiniry was also traded to the Grand Prairie Air Hogs of the American Association in exchange for future considerations.
