Right-hander earns second win of year with seven shutout innings

(Bridgeport, Conn., May 6, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 5-1 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Blake Tekotte put the Ducks in front with a RBI double to right-center field in the second inning off of Bluefish starter David Anderson. Two more runs came across in the third on Mike Dowd’s RBI double to left and Lew Ford’s RBI single to right.

Bridgeport got on the scoreboard in the eighth thanks to a two-out RBI single from Ruben Sosa Jr. However, Long Island answered with two runs in the ninth on Cody Puckett’s RBI single and a throwing error that allowed Sean Burroughs to score.

Ducks starter Mark Blackmar (2-0) was spectacular in the win, tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out seven. He retired the first 13 batters he faced before Luis Rodriguez ended his perfect game bid in the fifth. Anderson (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding three runs on 10 hits and one walk in four innings with three strikeouts.

Nate Freiman led the Flock with three hits on the night, while four other Ducks chipped in with two apiece.

The Ducks and Bluefish continue their three-game set on Saturday evening. Game time is slated for 6:12 p.m. from the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
