Right-hander tosses second complete game of the year

– The Long Island Ducks defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 5-1 on Thursday night in the final game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Sugar Land grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a RBI triple from Ryan Langerhans off Ducks starting pitcher Bobby Blevins. Long Island responded in the bottom of the frame with two runs off Skeeters starting pitcher Steve Hammond. A Dan Lyons RBI double and a run-scoring error off the bat of Fehlandt Lentini highlighted the inning.

The Ducks increased their lead to 3-1 in the fifth on a RBI fielder’s choice from Lyons. Two more runs from the Flock in the bottom of the seventh on a Joash Brodin RBI single and a RBI groundout from Lyons rounded out the scoring.

Blevins (7-3) earned the win, tossing nine innings of one-run ball, yielding seven hits while striking out three. Hammond (8-8) took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts over six innings of work.

Evan Crawford led the Ducks with three hits and three runs scored. Brodin added a pair of hits, and Lyons drove in three runs.

Long Island begins a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive 15th Anniversary Logo Black T-Shirts, courtesy of Interboro Insurance. The Ducks will also be running their Friday night Pizza Hut K-Man promotion. If the K-Man strikes out during the game, fans will be able to redeem their game ticket for an order of free breadsticks at a participating Pizza Hut location. Right-hander Jared Lansford gets the start for the Ducks against Patriots southpaw Matt Maloney.

Duck Tales: With three RBI on Thursday, Dan Lyons recorded his third three-RBI game of the year. It was his first three-RBI game since June 27 at York. The fourth-year Duck now has nine multi-RBI games this season…With two hits on Thursday, Joash Brodin has now picked up two hits in three of his last six games and has reached base safely in five of those games. It marked the third-year Duck’s 19th two-hit and 25th multi-hit game this year…With three hits on Thursday, Evan Crawford earned his first multi-hit game as a Duck. The 26-year-old is now 6-for-9 at the plate with three stolen bases and three runs scored in his first four games with Long Island…Fehlandt Lentini stole his league-leading 41st base of the season on Thursday. The first-year Duck is now a perfect 41-for-41 in stolen base attempts this year. As a team, Long Island stole three bases on Thursday, and they have now stolen 95 this year, good for second-most in the league (York, 126)…Bobby Blevins tossed his second complete game of the season on Thursday, both of which have come in his last three starts. The third-year Duck has now tossed eight straight quality starts dating back to July 4. In those eight starts, Blevins has allowed no more than two runs and has worked at least six and two-thirds innings each time. Over that span, the righty is 3-0 with a 1.40 earned run average (10 earned runs over 64 and one-third innings)…Ducks starting pitchers are now 4-1 with a 1.50 ERA (10 earned runs in 61 and two-thirds innings) over their last nine games after Blevins’ nine innings of one-run ball on Thursday. In that span, they’ve allowed 50 hits and 11 walks while striking out 35 batters. Dating back to August 2, the starters are 6-2 with a 1.61 ERA, allowing 15 earned runs in 83 and two-thirds innings.
