Six scoreless innings from Ducks bullpen not enough in series opener

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 2, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 1-0 on Friday night in the opener of a four-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

Both pitching staffs were terrific in the game. Mike Bolsinger (1-4) took the loss but allowed just one run in three innings on three hits and a walk while striking out four. Four Ducks relievers combined to throw six scoreless innings, yielding just five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Sam Burton (2-2) earned the win for the Blue Crabs, pitching six and one-third scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and four walks while striking out four. After one and two-thirds scoreless innings from Endrys Briceno, Mat Latos picked up his sixth save with a scoreless ninth inning.

The game’s only run came in the second inning. Cesar Trejo walked, stole second and scored on a one-out RBI single from Dario Pizzano.

The Ducks and Blue Crabs continue their four-game series on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Fireworks Spectacular, presented by The Rinx at Hidden Pond Park.
