(Waldorf, Md., May 15, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 5-3 on Wednesday morning in the third game of a four-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Southern Maryland jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning against Ducks starter Brett Marshall. An RBI double by Tony Thomas, a run-scoring groundout from Craig Maddox and an RBI single by Edwin Garcia did the damage.

Long Island closed to within 3-1 in the third on Steve Lombardozzi’s RBI double to left off Blue Crabs starter Brandon Cumpton, but a solo homer by Rubi Silva to left-center in the bottom of the inning made it a 4-1 game. Vladimir Frias lifted a sacrifice fly to left in the fifth, scoring Daniel Fields, but an RBI single by Cory Vaughn in the bottom of the frame increased the Blue Crabs lead to 5-2.

David Washington doubled to left-center in the sixth, scoring Lombardozzi to trim the Ducks deficit to 5-3. However, Long Island was unable to pull even.

Cumpton (1-2) earned the win, tossing six innings of three-run ball, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out seven. Marshall (1-2) suffered the loss, surrendering four runs on five hits and two walks over three innings with four strikeouts. Mat Latos picked up his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

Lombardozzi, Washington and Fields each had two hits to lead the Ducks offensively.
