The Blue Crabs opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI double by Danny Muno off Ducks starter John Brownell. Long Island responded immediately in the bottom of the frame with a two-run home run to left-center field by Angelo Songco off Blue Crabs starter Gaby Hernandez.
The Ducks extended the lead to 3-1 in the third on an RBI single to right by Songco. Southern Maryland closed to within one in the sixth on a solo homer to left by Wilson and then took the lead with five runs in the eighth. A two-run homer to left by Michael Snyder, an RBI single by Jose Lozada and a two-run triple from Gary Brown did the damage.
Back-to-back home runs from Songco and Marc Krauss in the bottom of the seventh trimmed Long Island’s deficit to 7-5. However, a solo homer by Snyder in the ninth put the game out of reach.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Brownell pitched six innings of two-run ball, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out seven. Hernandez lasted five innings, yielding three runs on six hits and a walk with one strikeout. Sam Runion (1-1) collected the win after pitching a scoreless seventh inning, and Eric Gagne (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk in one-third of an inning. Cody Eppley picked up his sixth save of the year with a scoreless ninth.
Songco led the Flock with three hits, driving in four runs while scoring twice.
