A sacrifice fly off the bat of Luis Lopez and a RBI single by Luis Rodriguez off Ducks starter John Brownell in the first inning gave Bridgeport a 2-0 lead. Long Island answered with a run in the second on a RBI double to center field by Bill Hall off Bluefish starter Joe Bateman.
The Bluefish got the run back in the fifth before an eight-run seventh inning put the game out of reach. RBI singles from Ramon Castro and Rodriguez, a two-run fielding error and a three-run home run by Juan Martinez highlighted the damage. A RBI single by Brendan Harris in the seventh and a solo homer by Jon Myers in the ninth closed the deficit to eight, but that was as close as the Ducks would come.
Bateman (1-3) earned the win, tossing five innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk while striking out two. Brownell (9-6) suffered the loss, surrendering eight runs (five earned) on nine hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings.
Cody Puckett led the Flock with three hits, while Harris, Hall and Adam Bailey each had two.
The Ducks hit the road for 10 games beginning on Thursday with the opener of a three-game set against the Camden Riversharks. Game time is slated for 11:05 a.m. from Campbell’s Field. Right-hander Bobby Blevins takes the mound for the Ducks against Riversharks righty Greg Miller.
