Bridgeport clinches 2015 Ferry Cup Series with victory

(Bridgeport, Conn., August 26, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 6-1 on Wednesday night in the finale of a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Long Island was first to score, when Sean Burroughs hit a RBI single to left off Bridgeport starter David Anderson in the opening inning to go on top 1-0. The Bluefish responded with five runs in the third. Jeudy Valdez, David Anderson, and Ethan Chapman all walked with the bases loaded and picked up one RBI apiece. A RBI fielder’s choice from Andres Rodriguez and a run-scoring wild pitch thrown by Ducks starter Ian Marshall accounted for the other runs and put Bridgeport up 5-1.

In the seventh, Chapman would add an insurance run on a RBI single and put the Bluefish in front 6-1. The Ducks were unable to close the gap.

Marshall (7-7) was saddled with the loss, allowing five runs on three hits in two and two-thirds innings. He walked seven and struck out one. Anderson (2-0) earned the win for Bridgeport, throwing six innings and allowing one run on three this while walking two and striking out four. Billy Buckner threw two and one-third innings of relief in place of Marshall, striking out six batters and allowing one hit for the Ducks.

Burroughs paced Long Island with one RBI and a walk.

Long Island now heads to Southern Maryland for a four-game set with the Blue Crabs. Game time for Thursday’s series opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Regency Furniture Stadium. Southpaw Darin Downs gets the start for the Ducks against Blue Crabs right-hander Daryl Thompson. The Ducks will return home on Tuesday, September 1 to begin a three-game series with the Bluefish. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders.
