Cleary Jr., Krauss collect RBIs for Flock
(Bridgeport, Conn., April 13, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish, 4-2, on Thursday afternoon in the team’s spring training opener at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
Long Island got off to a fast start with two runs in the first inning against defending Atlantic League Pitcher of the Year Jonathan Albaladejo. An RBI single by Delta Cleary Jr. and a run-scoring double off the bat of Marc Krauss gave the Ducks a 2-0 lead.
Bridgeport rallied to tie the game with a run in the second off Ducks starter Eury De La Rosa and another run in the fifth. RBI singles by Ozney Guillen and Daniel Fields evened the score.
Alberto Callaspo put the Bluefish ahead with a solo home run in the seventh inning. Another solo blast by Yefry Reyes in the eighth rounded out the scoring.
Zac Grotz collected the win with a scoreless inning of relief despite allowing a hit and two walks. Tyler Wilson took the loss, yielding two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out four in two innings of relief. David Carpenter earned the save after pitching the ninth for Bridgeport. David Aardsma, Chin-Hui Tsao and Dennis O’Grady each threw a scoreless inning of relief for the Ducks.
Krauss and Alex Burg each totaled two hits for the Flock.
The Ducks will play the back end of their home-and-home against the Bluefish on Saturday, April 15. Admission to the game on against Bridgeport, which is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m., will be free of charge as part of the team’s Fifth Annual Fan Fest taking place that day. The exhibition schedule will conclude with back-to-back home games against local amateurs, the Long Island Black Sox. The games against the Black Sox will be free for season ticket holders while a $5 donation to the QuackerJack Foundation will apply for the general public.
Following a season-opening road trip, Opening Night at Bethpage Ballpark will take place on Friday, April 28 when the Ducks host the New Britain Bees at 6:35 p.m. Gates will open at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders), and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Rich Hill Bobbleheads, courtesy of P.C. Richard & Son. Fans should be in their seats by 6:15 p.m. to enjoy pre-game team introductions and traditional Opening Night pomp and circumstance.
