Ducks manage just four hits in series opener

(Bridgeport, Conn, July 25, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 4-2 on Thursday night in the opening game of a four-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the game

Bridgeport struck first on a RBI infield single from Alexis Gomez off Ducks starter Dontrelle Willis. The Ducks tied the game in the fifth inning on Ray Navarrete’s sacrifice fly off Bridgeport starter Miguel Martinez, but the Bluefish retook the lead in the bottom half of the frame on a RBI single by Gomez.

Long Island tied the game again in the sixth on Bryant Nelson’s RBI double to right field. Iggy Suarez hit a RBI double, and Brandon Chaves singled a run home in the eighth inning to put the Bluefish on top, and the Ducks offense could not answer in the ninth inning.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Willis threw seven innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, while Martinez allowed two runs on four hits in his seven innings. Ruddy Lugo (2-1) picked up the win, throwing a perfect eighth inning. Ian Snell (0-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in one inning of work. Jeff Fulchino pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his ninth save of the year.
