Longest winning streak of season snapped in Bridgeport

(Bridgeport, Conn., June 11, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 3-2 on Thursday night in game one of a four-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Ducks struck for two runs in the opening inning. Lew Ford’s RBI single off of Bluefish starter Scott Maine plated Bryan Sabatella for the first run. Randy Ruiz followed up by bringing in Reegie Corona on a double play ball to give the Ducks a 2-0 advantage.

The Bluefish answered for one run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings against Ducks starter Ian Marshall. Welington Dotel’s sacrifice fly in the third got the ‘Fish on the board. Bridgeport tied the game at two in the fourth thanks to a RBI ground out from Jake Luce. The Bluefish went ahead 3-2 in the fifth when Ford dropped a fly ball in center field off the bat of Frazier Hall, scoring John Alonso from first base. The Ducks were not able to respond.

Ian Marshall (3-2) took the loss for the Ducks. The righty surrendered three runs (two earned) on four hits through six and two-thirds innings of work. He walked six and struck out five. Maine (2-4) earned the win for Bridgeport, yielding two runs (both earned) on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts in five and one-thirds innings. Patrick Crider and Nick Struck held the Bluefish hitless over the final inning and one-third. Patrick Mincey earned his fourth save of the season for the Bluefish with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Ford led the Flock with three hits, a double, and one RBI. Sabatella added two hits and one run.

The Ducks continue the four-game series with the cross-sound rival Bridgeport Bluefish on Friday. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Long Island returns home on Tuesday, June 16 to open a three-game series with the Sugar Land Skeeters.
