Long Island loses early lead, as Bridgeport evens Ferry Cup Series
(Bridgeport, Conn., August 18, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 4-3 on Monday night in the opener of a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Ducks struck for two runs in the opening inning on a two-out, two-run single to left by Cody Puckett off Bluefish starter Kyle McMillen. Bridgeport closed to within a run in the bottom of the frame on a RBI single by Fred Lewis off Ducks starter John Brownell.
Long Island got their two-run lead back in the third on a RBI double to right by Adam Bailey. However, a two-run bottom of the inning by the Bluefish tied the game at three. A RBI double by Sean Burroughs and a run-scoring single off the bat of Lewis did the damage.
It remained even until the bottom of the ninth when Luis Lopez walked to start the inning. Two batters later, Juan Martinez ended the game with a walk-off RBI single to center.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Brownell tossed seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out four. McMillen pitched six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and five walks with four strikeouts. Winston Abreu (2-6) got the win after tossing a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts. Bob Zimmermann (1-2) took the loss, yielding a run on one hit and one walk in one-third of an inning.
Joash Brodin led the Flock with three hits at the plate, while Bailey and Lew Ford each added two.
The Ducks and cross-sound rival Bluefish continue their three-game set on Tuesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Right-hander Bobby Blevins gets the start for the Ducks against Bluefish righty D.J. Mitchell. Long Island will return home on Thursday, August 21 to kick off a four-game series against the Somerset Patriots. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
