Right-hander’s strong start, four-run fourth earn Ducks series split
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 29, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-1 on Thursday night in the final game of a four-game series and finale of an eight-game homestand at Bethpage Ballpark.

Lancaster scratched out the game’s first run in the third on a walk, two bunt singles and a sac fly to right by Joe Thurston. Long Island responded with four in the bottom of the inning against Barnstormers starter Derrick Loop. Lew Ford’s two-run double, a run-scoring wild pitch and a RBI single by Ryan Strieby highlighted the inning.
Both starters settled in from that point on. Bob Zimmermann (3-3) earned the win, tossing seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six. Loop (3-6) took the loss, yielding four runs on five hits with 12 strikeouts in seven innings. Leo Rosales earned his 17th save with a scoreless ninth.
The Ducks hit the road for a six-game road trip beginning on Friday with the opener of a three-game series against the York Revolution. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m. from Sovereign Bank Stadium. Long Island returns home on Friday, September 6 to open up a four-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. Duck Tales: Bob Zimmermann tied his season-high by tossing seven innings. He previously pitched seven innings on July 14 at Bridgeport. The right-hander also set a personal season-high with six strikeouts. His previous high was five, done on July 24 in a 7-6 win at Camden. In his last three starts, the third-year Duck has allowed just five runs in 19 innings (2.37 ERA) and has gone six or more innings in each of the three…Both pitching staffs combined to allow just one hit over the final six innings of the game after combining for eight in the first three innings. Kraig Binick’s double in the seventh off Derrick Loop accounted for the only hit. Ducks pitching allowed only a walk to Joe Thurston and a hit by pitch to Olmo Rosario after the third…Leo Rosales worked his fourth consecutive scoreless appearance and has yet to allow an earned run in six games since returning from an injury. In six innings during that span, he has allowed just one hit, one unearned run and one walk while striking out 11 batters…Lew Ford drove in two runs to earn his first multi-RBI game of the season. His last multi-RBI game as a Duck came on May 10, 2012 in game two of a doubleheader against York.
