(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 29, 2026) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 6-5 in 10 innings on Saturday night in the fifth game of a six-game series before a past-capacity crowd of 6,826 at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
Jackson Hauge gave the Flying Boxcars an early lead in the third inning with a solo home run to left-center field off Ducks starter Michael Dominguez. An RBI single up the middle by Robert Brooks in the fourth doubled Hagerstown’s lead to two. A two-run fifth, highlighted by Darick Hall’s RBI single to left and a throwing error that plated Jared Carr, gave the visitors a 4-0 advantage.
Long Island cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth on Jacob Robson’s solo home run to right-center and Henry Kusiak’s solo homer to left-center off Flying Boxcars pitcher Brennen Oxford. Kusiak was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh, scoring Aaron Antonini to close the gap to 4-3. Jorge Bonifacio tied the game at four in the eighth with a one-out solo homer to left field.
Hagerstown took the led in the top of the 10th when Noah Smith scored on a throwing error and a passed ball. However, Bonifacio won the game for the Flock with a two-out, two-strike, 404-foot two-run home run to left-center field.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Dominguez threw four and one-third innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out three. Curlis pitched four scoreless innings, conceding four hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Jacob Asa (6-1) picked up the win despite allowing an unearned run in the 10th. Clay Helvey (5-5) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs on two this and a walk in one and two-thirds innings.
Bonifacio led the Ducks at the plate with three hits, three RBIs and two runs. Kusiak chipped in with two hits, two RBIs and a run.
The Ducks and Flying Boxcars wrap up their six-game set on Sunday evening. Game time is slated for 5:05 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 4:05 (3:50 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Frisbees, courtesy of News 12 Long Island. It will also be a FourLeaf Family Funday Sunday at the ballpark, featuring a pregame catch on the Field and postgame Kids Run the Bases. Left-hander Nick Margevicius (3-2, 4.70) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Flying Boxcars righty Robbie Baker (6-5, 6.19).
