Ducks drop second straight one-run game in Sunday evening finale

(Bridgeport, Conn., July 26, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 2-1 on Sunday evening in the finale of a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Bluefish struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on Josh Prince’s solo homer off of Ducks starter Bobby Blevins. Long Island tied the game on Delta Cleary, Jr.’s RBI single in the sixth against Bridgeport starter Kameron Loe.

Luis Rodriguez won it for the Bluefish with a walkoff RBI single to left field in the ninth off of Ducks reliever Nick Struck.

Steven Ames (1-0) earned the win, tossing a scoreless inning of relief in the ninth. Struck (3-3) suffered the loss, surrendering the winning run on two hits with one walk in one-third of an inning. Both starters took a no decision. Blevins tossed five and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Loe went seven frames, also allowing one run on six hits, while walking none and striking out six. J.C. Romero, Donnie Veal, and Amalio Diaz held the Bluefish hitless over two and one-third innings of relief.

Cleary, Jr. finished with a pair of hits and a RBI to pace Long Island.

The Ducks return home on Tuesday, July 28 to open up a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
