(Sugar Land, Texas, Sept. 9, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 7-1 on Sunday night in the third game of a four-game series at Constellation Field.

Long Island grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning courtesy of RBI singles by Brandon Pinckney and Bryant Nelson off Skeeters starter Tim Redding. A five-run fifth inning opened the Ducks’ lead to seven. RBI singles from Timo Perez and Ray Navarrete, a two-run base hit by Joash Brodin and a run-scoring wild pitch highlighted the frame.
Sugar Land finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning against Ducks starter John Brownell on a RBI single to left by Iggy Suarez. However, the Skeeters would not get any closer.
Brownell (1-0) got the win in his Ducks debut, tossing seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out five. Redding (3-2) took the loss, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on seven hits in four and one-third innings of work. Nelson and Navarrete each led the Ducks with two hits at the plate.
The Ducks and Skeeters play the finale of their four-game set on Monday night. Game time is slated for 8:05 PM EDT from Constellation Field. Long Island returns home on Tuesday, September 11 to open a seven-game homestand with a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35. It’s 9/11 Responders Night at the ballpark, and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Baseball Caps, courtesy of the WTC Health Program. At 5:00, a steel beam from the World Trade Center will be donated to Ducks founder and CEO Frank Boulton and the Ducks and permanently affixed to the grounds outside Bethpage Ballpark.
