Righty tosses seven shutout innings in victory

(York, Penn., May 5, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 2-1 on Sunday evening in the final game of a three-game series at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Joash Brodin’s bases loaded walk, Gabe Suarez’s solo homer and Rian Kiniry’s game-saving catch

Long Island took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second inning against Revolution starter Corey Thurman. A bases loaded walk to Joash Brodin and a solo homer by Gabe Suarez did the damage.

Ducks starter John Brownell cruised from there, and the Ducks held a 2-0 lead heading into the ninth. York would grab a run off closer Leo Rosales on a RBI single by Johan Limonta. However, Rian Kiniry made a game-saving catch off the bat of Wilson Batista for the final out to seal the victory.

Brownell (1-2) dominated to earn the win, tossing seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out nine. Thurman (1-3) suffered the loss despite allowing two runs on three hits with nine strikeouts in six innings. Rosales earned his second save despite allowing an unearned run on two hits in the ninth inning.

Ryan Strieby paced the offense with two hits while Suarez added two walks to his solo homer.

The Ducks continue their seven-game road trip on Monday when they open a four-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. from Clipper Magazine Stadium. Southpaw Matt Way takes the mound for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Dwayne Pollok.
