Starter’s complete game not enough in series opener with Camden

(Camden, N.J., Sept. 8, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Camden Riversharks 3-0 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Campbell’s Field.

The Riversharks took a 1-0 lead on Mat Gamel’s RBI single in the first off Ducks starter John Brownell. Camden extended the advantage to 3-0 in the second on a RBI single from Brandon Chaves and a sacrifice fly from Michael Rockett.

That was all the offense Riversharks starter Bill Murphy needed, as the southpaw went the distance without allowing a run to Long Island in a complete game effort.

Brownell (11-5) suffered the hard-luck loss, also throwing a complete game, in eight innings. He allowed three runs on six hits while walking two and striking out eight. Murphy (7-14) tossed nine shutout innings, giving up seven hits, walking two, and striking out six.

Randy Ruiz paced Long Island’s offense with a pair of hits, including a double.

The Ducks continue their three-game series with the Riversharks on Wednesday night. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Campbell’s Field. Righty Bobby Blevins gets the start for Long Island against Camden right-hander Sean Gleason. Fans can follow all of the action live on the Ducks’ official YouTube channel.
