Righty earns league-leading 11th win of season

– The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 2-1 on Saturday night in the opener of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Both sides exchanged scoreless innings until the bottom of the sixth when Dan Lyons hit a solo home run to left field off Revolution starter Corey Thurman. York immediately pulled even in the top of the seventh on a RBI single to right by Ofilio Castro off Ducks starter John Brownell.

However, Long Island took the lead back in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to right-center by Lew Ford.

Brownell (11-6) earned the win, tossing eight innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and five walks while striking out three. Dan Cortes (0-1) took the loss, yielding a run on three walks in one-third of an inning. Brett Lorin earned his second save with a perfect ninth inning, striking out one. Thurman did not factor into the decision but pitched seven innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits while striking out five.

The Ducks and Revolution continue their three-game series on Sunday evening. Game time is slated for 5:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 4:05. It’s Whole Foods Market Night at the ballpark, and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Logo Rally Towels. It’s also a Sunday Family Funday at the ballpark! Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Ducks from 4:20 to 4:35. After the game, kids and kids at heart can take part in Kids Run the Bases, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Right-hander Bobby Blevins gets the start for the Ducks against Revolution southpaw Logan Williamson.

Duck Tales: Dan Lyons’ solo home run in the sixth inning was his third of the year. It was also his second of the week after he hit a solo homer in game one of a doubleheader on Sunday in Bridgeport. The 2012 Championship Series MVP entered the season with five home runs combined in three seasons with the Ducks…With a single in the sixth inning, Brendan Harris extended his on-base streak to 26 consecutive games. That’s the longest active on-base streak in the Atlantic League and three shy of the longest by a Duck this season, which Cody Puckett achieved from May 6 to June 6. During the streak, Harris is batting .293 (27-for-92) with three doubles, two homers, 14 RBI, 15 runs and 22 walks. The former big leaguer has a hit in 21 of the 26 games during that span…John Brownell earned his league-leading 11th win of the season Saturday. The third-year Duck also leads the league in games started (20), innings pitched (137.1) and complete games (4), while ranking second in strikeouts (91)… Saturday’s crowd of 6,438 was the Ducks’ ninth past-capacity crowd of the season. Long Island has now hosted 636 sold out crowds all-time, an Atlantic League record.
