(York, Pa., Sept. 15, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 4-2 on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series at PeoplesBank Park.
GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the series-opening win
The Ducks opened the scoring in the third inning on a two-out RBI single from Anthony Vega off Revolution starter Tony Pena. Three more runs in the fifth extended the lead to 4-0. A two-run home run to left-center field by Vega and an RBI single to left by Cody Puckett, both with two outs, highlighted the inning.
York closed the gap to two in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Isaias Tejeda and an RBI single from Andres Perez. Joel Guzman would ground out to second thought to end the threat.
John Brownell (10-8) was brilliant to earn the win, tossing seven shutout innings and allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out five. Pena (7-10) took the loss, yielding four runs on eight hits over six innings with five strikeouts. Amalio Diaz collected his fifth save with a scoreless ninth, striking out all three Revolution batters he faced.
Vega, Fehlandt Lentini and Mike Blanke each had two hits to lead the Flock.
