Relievers combine for six scoreless innings as Ducks overcome 3-0 deficit

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 26, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 5-3 on Tuesday night in the second game of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

York built a 3-0 lead with a run in the second inning and two in the third off Ducks starter Lee Sosa. An RBI single by Jose Cuevas and a two-run home run to left field by Melky Mesa did the damage.

Long Island responded with two runs in the third and two in the fourth off Revolution starter Pat McCoy to take a 4-3 lead. A solo homer to right-center by Daniel Fields, an RBI double by Travis Snider and back-to-back RBI singles by Dan Lyons and Jordany Valdespin highlighted the scoring. Lew Ford’s RBI single to left in the seventh rounded out the scoring.

Five Ducks relievers combined to pitch six scoreless innings and preserve the win. They allowed just three baserunners on a single, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out seven batters.

Sosa did not factor into the decision but lasted three innings, yielding three runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Brandon Pinder (1-0) picked up the win with a perfect inning of relief in his Ducks debut. McCoy (1-3) took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk in five and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez earned his 11th save with a perfect ninth inning.

Snider and Fields each had two hits, an RBI and a run to lead the Flock. Lyons and Valdespin each had two hits and an RBI as well.
