(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 28, 2026) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 8-2 on Friday night in the fourth game of a six-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
Hagerstown took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by Darick Hall and Leobaldo Cabrera off Ducks starter Brian Moran. Long Island countered with three runs in the second to take the lead when Marcus Chiu doubled and Anthony Garcia scored on a fielding error, Jorge Bonifacio lifted a sacrifice fly to center and René Pinto picked up an RBI single to left. Terrell Tatum connected for an opposite-field two-run home run off Flying Boxcars starter Rafael Sanchez in the fourth, pushing the Ducks lead to 5-2.
Two more runs came across for Long Island in the fifth on Garcia’s RBI single through the left side and Chiu’s sac fly to right. Chiu’s RBI triple to right-center in the seventh plated Garcia and ballooned the Ducks advantage to 8-2.
Moran did not factor into the decision but pitched four innings of two-run ball, allowing four hits with one strikeout. Jacob Asa (5-1) picked up the win in relief with a scoreless fifth inning. Sanchez (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering seven runs on six hits and four walks in four and one-third innings with five strikeouts.
Chiu led the Ducks offense with two hits, two RBIs and a run. Tatum added a hit, two walks, two RBIs, two runs and three stolen bases. Garcia also chipped in with a hit and three walks, driving in a run and scoring twice.
The Ducks and Flying Boxcars continue their six-game set on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a postgame Fireworks Spectacular, presented by the Suffolk County PBA. It will also be a Long Island MacArthur Airport Lucky Seat Saturday at the ballpark. Right-hander Michael Dominguez (6-4, 5.87) takes the mound for the Ducks against Flying Boxcars lefty Connor Curlis (2-1, 4.12).
