(York, Pa., May 31, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 6-2 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at PeoplesBank Park.

The Ducks took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly to right field off the bat of L.J. Mazzilli. Three two-out runs for the Flock off Revolution starter Matthew Grimes in the fourth extended the advantage to four. An RBI single to center by Rando Moreno and a two-run home run to left-center by Daniel Fields highlighted the inning.

York closed to within 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth on Henry Castillo’s two-run homer to right-center off Ducks starter Joe Iorio. It stayed that way until the eighth inning when an RBI single to left-center by Hector Sanchez extended Long Island’s lead to three. A sac fly to center by Steve Lombardozzi in the ninth rounded out the scoring at 6-2.

Iorio did not factor into the decision but lasted four and one-third innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three. Cody Mincey (1-0) earned the win with one and one-third innings of scoreless relief, yielding one hit while striking out two. Grimes (1-4) took the loss, conceding four runs on five hits and three walks over five and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts.

Mincey joined Tanner Scheppers, Vin Mazzaro and Josh Lueke in combining to pitch four and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief for the Ducks, giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out three batters.
