Somerset jumped in front 2-0 in the first inning on an RBI double by Eric Farris and an RBI single by Brian LaHair off Ducks starter Bobby Blevins. Long Island answered with two of their own in the bottom of the first on Delta Cleary Jr.’s run-scoring groundout and an RBI single by Cody Puckett off Patriots starter Will Oliver.

The Ducks took a 4-2 lead in the third on Puckett’s RBI fielder’s choice and Ruben Gotay’s RBI single. A run in the top of the fifth on Scott Kelly’s sacrifice fly trimmed Somerset’s deficit to one. It stayed that way until the eighth when a four-run inning put the Patriots ahead 7-4. Farris’ RBI single, LaHair’s sac fly and a two-run double by Kyle Roller did the damage.

Blevins did not factor into the decision but pitched six innings, yielding three runs on five hits and a walk. Oliver (3-2) earned the win, lasting seven innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out nine. Danny Burawa (0-1) took the loss, surrendering three runs on a hit and two walks in one-third of an inning. Jon Hunton picked up his 28th save with a scoreless ninth.

Fehlandt Lentini and Tyler Colvin each had two hits to pace the Flock.

The Ducks continue their homestand on Friday night when they open a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m. with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Backpacks, courtesy of Motorola. It will also be a Fowl Pole Friday at the ballpark, and if a select Ducks player hits a home run off of either foul pole during the game, one lucky Ducks fan will win $50,000. The Ducks will be running their Friday night Pizza Hut K-Man promotion, and staff members will be handing out coupons with a special offer from OK Petroleum to fans as they exit the ballpark as well. Right-hander John Brownell gets the start for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Joey Maher.
