The Ducks took a 2-0 lead in the second inning against Blue Crabs starter Ian Marshall on a RBI double to left by Kraig Binick and a RBI single to right by Dan Lyons. Southern Maryland answered with a four-run fourth off Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann to jump in front 4-2. Jose Salas’ run-scoring groundout, Jeremy Owens’ RBI double and a two-run home run by Wladimir Sutil did the damage.

It stayed that way until the seventh when the Ducks scored three to take the lead back. A run-scoring wild pitch, a RBI groundout by Joash Brodin and a RBI single to center by Josh Barfield highlighted the scoring.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Zimmermann allowed four runs on six hits in four innings while Marshall yielded three runs on six hits in six innings of work. Daniel Herrera (1-0) earned the win after pitching a scoreless inning of relief, striking out three, and Beau Vaughan (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits in one-third of an inning. Jared Lansford earned his seventh save with a scoreless ninth.

Binick, Lyons, and Barfield led the Ducks with two hits apiece.

The Ducks and Blue Crabs continue their four-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at a special time of 5:10 for a charity softball game between QSAC (Quality Services for the Autism Community) and the Oyster Bay Police Department.
